Movie: "The Lair of the White Worm"
Director: Ken Russell
Year: 1988
Rating: R
Running Time: 1 hour, 33 minutes

A young archaeologist named Angus Flint (Peter Capaldi) uncovers the skull of what appears to be some sort of monster while excavating the site of an old convent, which is now a boarding house. Lord James D'Ampton (Hugh Grant, WAT) is a wealthy nobleman who is the descendant of the slayer of the great white worm. He is also the boyfriend of one of the women who run the boarding house, Eve Trent (Catherine Oxenberg). The unearthing of the skull starts a series of events in which the worshiper of the white worm, Lady Sylvia Marsh (Amanda Donohoe), wishes to use the skull and sacrifice Eve in order to resurrect the white worm. It's up to Angus and Lord James to stop her.

We have had this movie on our Netflix DVD queue for quite some time. When we heard Hugh Grant was in it, we wanted to see it. It's full of your typical cheesy 80's throwback which is now ridiculous and outdated; this also makes the movie extremely funny and enjoyable to watch. We're not entirely sure if the movies original purpose was intended to be funny, but whether or not it was, it most certainly is. It has those acid-trip type of flashback sequences, something you'd find straight out of "Beavis and Butthead." The plot is pretty thin and doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but in the end, it doesn't really matter, it's still pretty good.

Plus, there's a Celtic worm-dance song, so that's gotta add some points right there.

My Rating: 6/10
BigJ's Rating: 6.5/10
IMDB's Rating: 5.6/10
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 57%
Do we recommend this movie: Sure, why not?
